Nehemiah 6:3 So I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you?”
In the first chapter of Nehemiah, Nehemiah receives word through Hanani that the wall of Jerusalem are broken down and the gates are burned with fire.
When Nehemiah heard the bad news, he mourned, fasted and prayed for many days. After a few months, he was able to share his burden with the King to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the wall.
The book of Nehemiah is filled with leadership qualities, and one quality of a leader is to stay focused on your vision. This is true especially when it comes to ministry.
We can learn from reading this book that we are sure to come against a Sanballat and Tobiah in our life. These men were against the Lord’s plan from the beginning. They mocked, ridiculed, spread rumors and tried everything they could do to hinder Nehemiah from rebuilding the wall.
But what did Nehemiah do? He stayed focused on his vision; he did not stray from his goal of completing the wall. The wall had to be rebuilt to keep the enemy out.
Nehemiah began building the wall months before through prayer and fasting, and was well rooted. When God reveals by His Spirit a calling upon your life, that cannot be taken away, and it then that you begin building the walls in your ministry to come against the fiery darts of the enemy.
If you find yourself in a detour, get back on track! Realize that you have temporarily lost your focus, and get back to doing business with God.
May you be richly blessed this day.

I literally “StumbledUpon” this blog while browsing – and just as God is always
“on time”, so your closing words are “on time” for me …!! I quote:
“IF YOU FIND YOURSELF IN A DETOUR, GET BACK ON TRACK!
REALIZE THAT YOU HAVE TEMPORARILY LOST YOUR FOCUS,
AND GET BACK TO DOING BUSINESS WITH GOD”.
Thank you for being the “messenger” in my life tonight Yvette! x
You are so welcome Estelle.
God’s grace and love covers us in our failures. I am glad to hear that this post blessed you.

We must stay focus all through the bible we see men who God has called and they found themselves being attacked by distractions. The enemy loves to distract us from our goal if he can get us off focus then we won’t see what he is really up too. And sadly we fall for his distractions that we end up rearing off the right path. And by the time we realize where we are we have a long journey ahead of us to get back on the path. That is why it really does pay to listen to the voice of God and discern those spirits.
Much needed encouragment! It’s a fact that when we start doing the will of God, we will meet up with the enemy, and the crazy thing is… the opposition usually comes from those in our own camp. I agree with Valerie. Have a great day, Yvette
I do not believe that people fully understand that when they are called by God to do something, they do not realize the full magnitude of this calling. As Jesus said, “just as I suffered, so will you.” The more you do God’s will in your life, the more the devil will attack. This is when you must remember that the battle has already been won. We simply have to take each day as it comes and stand rooted and grounded in the Lord, His promises and His words. I know for me I did not realize what I was getting into when I accepted God’s calling on my life. Believe me I have been attacked in so many different ways so much that I wondered if it was all worth it. But, then I began to think and reflect on what my Lord and Savior went through just for me. How could I compare what I go through with all that He went through? I can’t. The only thing I can do is to stand strong in the fact that He overcame and so shall I. I live my life for Christ despite all the pains, hardships and suffering knowing that one day I will stand before my Savior and be welcomed into my Heavenly home. This is what keeps me going.
Great post Yvette. I am sorry I wrote so much lol
I appreciate your words of wisdom, and when you stand before the Lord you will hear these words; Well done good and faithful servant!
Many blessings to you
Yvette
thanks for the important reminder – sometimes the call is a long time coming amidst perparation that often seems endless which makes staying on track difficult without a protective fortress
