Collective Salvation

Perhaps you have heard it said that our  individual salvation depends on collective salvation.  This quote is mentioned  by many  political leaders and people of influence.  But what does the Bible really say about salvation?

To answer this question, we will see a few scriptures to point out just how false this teaching is.

To begin, salvation is a personal responsibility.  Each person is accountable before God for his own salvation.  This cannot be made for you by your parents, friends or  someone else.

Romans 10:9  that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

The scripture here is clear;  we must confess Christ out of our own mouths, but most importantly, we must say it in our hearts first.

It is our personal responsibility to seek the Lord.

Luke 11:9   ” So I  (Jesus speaking)  say to you, ask , and it will be given to you;  seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you.

Matthew 6:33  But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added  to you.

After we confess Christ, it is our responsibility to seek the Lord.  How do we do this?  By attending regular church service, associate with those in the faith, participate in  Bible studies and if possible, attend conferences.  There are many resources out there, and it is up to us to search out those resources.

It is our responsibility to hear the gospel and to act on it.

Mark 7:14 When He (Jesus) had called all the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear Me, everyone, and understand.

No other person can hear and believe the gospel for you, it is a personal choice. This is a choice that has many rewards and benefits, and one that will grant you entrance to the Kingdom of Heaven.  Heaven, a  place where there is no sickness or disease, no tears or heartaches,  and abundant living.

It is our personal responsibility to be baptized.

Mark 16:16 (Jesus speaking)  He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

Once we have accepted Christ as our personal Lord and savior and believe, we are to be baptized.  Baptism is an individual choice made by the believer, and made when you  understand  God’s plan of salvation.

In summary, it is our personal responsibility to:

  • Receive the free gift of  salvation from Jesus Christ
  • Seek the Lord
  • Hear the gospel and act on it
  • Be baptized in the faith
