The Prodigal Son

Luke 15:12 -13 “And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ So he divided to them his livelihood. “And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living.(NKJ)
In the story of the prodigal son, we read about the younger son asking his father for his portion of the inheritance. The father did not hesitate in giving his son his portion of the goods. We don´t read that his father tried to talk him out of it, or even asked him what he needed it for . He simply gave it over to his son.
The story goes on to say that the son wasted away his fortune in prodigal living, in other words, in a wasteful manner.
When the famine hit, it was not only in the land, but I believe it was in the sons’ spirit and health as well. He realized how dry he had become in his relationship with his father, brother, and of course he was not receiving any healthy meals.
Today, some of our children are living a wasteful life, not realizing what they have at home. The story of the prodigal son is as common today as it was in the Bible.
As parents, it is our desire to keep our children with us as long as possible, but there comes a time where we must let them go. In doing so, it is best to turn them over to the hands of the Lord where they will be safe.
When the son joined himself to a citizen of another country, it did not take him long to realize that he did not belong there. When our children try to join the world which they are not accustomed to, they will know that they don´t belong.
We see how the Lord worked in the sons’ life and brought him home, but I am sure He worked in the Fathers life as well.
The word says that the son came to himself, in other words, he woke up or had a revelation of what was really going on.
We know who the true enemy is behind our children going astray. I know many parents that have instilled into their children all they have, and yet the children choose the way of the world. Yes, some return sooner rather than later and serve the Lord mightily. Others decide to stay in the world for a longer period.
Luke 15:18 says: ‘I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, (NKJ)
The son woke up out of his slumber. He arose from the ashes and went to be with his father. I believe this is a promise from the Lord. We can pray for our lost children to arise and go the Father. As parents, we will rejoice saying, ¨my son that was dead, is now alive, and proclaim that he/she is alive and living for Jesus.¨
Blessings in Him.

Amen Yvette, I pray for my children every day and night. This world is full of evil just waiting to entice our children. We have to pray God’s protection around them. I rejoice in Him always! God bless and love you.
I have two teen-age daughters, who are thankfully, very solid, good kids. My older one just came back from a retreat where her boyfriend became a christian, and she is on cloud nine. The younger one is taking it all in. Soon they will both be in colllege. I always tell them at that point they are free to make their own decisions, and it is up to them to make good ones. I am blessed so far, but there will always be challenges ahead for young adults to find God’s path for them.
This is a powerful piece of scripture. What I have learned from the parable of the prodigal son, is that the son violated the principles of inheritance. Once’s inheritance falls open upon the death of the father, or it should have been made available to him willingly by the father. But you just don’t demand your inheritance.
Again the devil, the great pretender; uses what I call a “prodigal spirit” to say to the young man, “hold on, things will be better.” This young man should have gone back to the father without any waste of time.
Thank you for the insight on the scripture, much appreciated!
