Reckless Abandonment

By Fernando Nietzen

Mark 12:30 ‘And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.(NKJ)

Observing Samson, our Bulldog, it amazes me that when it comes to food he is willing to risk everything to be the first in line.

The other day our other halfbreed pit-bull almost killed Samson over food. Anytime we are going to feed the dogs, Samson acts as if he were the Top-Dog, and if we are not careful to separate them, he could get seriously hurt by the halfbreed which is slightly larger.

This made me wonder how many times or how many sins have caused us to ignore our own safety. At our own peril we sometimes act as if we had blinders or one-track mind and we focus on reaching that which puts us in great danger – sometimes emotionally, physically or spiritually, or a combination of these.

We have similarly seen how a moth is drawn to an open flame, and it keeps circling ever-closer until it burns to death. Today, as never before our young people are under ferocious attacks from the enemy of their soul.

Through the culture around us, all sorts of evil and perversion are considered “socially acceptable”. This is not “business as usual.” The attack in these end-times is an all-out war. Temptations which previous generations confronted and overcame are like child’s play compared to what is out there today.

Parents need to wake up and stand in the gap, we must stop saying things like: “they will come around, we all went through such things.¨

Protecting our young people is almost a full time occupation and it may be draining. Inquire of the Lord what sin or distraction has been coming against you or against your household and put an end to it ASAP with firmness and authority from on high.

With the help of the Lord, we will be able to guard our soul and subject our mind and our body to His word and His will for our lives.
