The ants are here

November 20, 2008

Proverbs 6:6-9  Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise,  Which, having no captain, overseer or ruler,  provides her supplies in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.  How long will you slumber, O sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep?(NKJ))

Making sure my kitchen was clean the night before, I woke up to discover that I had missed a spot on the  kitchen counter.  Sure  enough, the ants were there, again.

I had been fighting the ants this season, and I never win.  They always manage to find something, they never give up.    I was then reminded of the verse in Proverbs quoted above.  Consider the ant,  and how she is able to locate her supplies and gather her food.

Often times I have been laxed in certain areas of my life, and observing  the ant, looking and hunting for any scrap of food made me realize how I have let opportunities pass me by.  I began to think,  if I just push myself a bit more, become more disciplined to acheive the goals that I have for my life and future, I will surely reap the benefits.

To the ant, a  crumb of food is a harvest.  We often wait for the next big thing to come our way, and miss out on the small opportunities that may be just around the corner that will lead to that big harvest.

The main concern to everyone today is the economic times.  The Lord taught me a good ant lesson:  It is not a time to feel  frightened or be worried, as I know that the Lord will provide all our needs.  He has done so in the past, and there is no reason why He should not do so in the future.

God is in control of everything, and as I say, we do our part, God will do His part.    It is not a time to be in a slumber,  we can  look and search for opportunities that may be within our reach.  Just like the ant, don´t give up.  We are bound to find something!

Yvette, I know the ants well. Never had a problem with them in New York or Nashville, but here in Richmond they are a huge problem. I thought I’d lose my mind trying to fight those stubborn little creature in the summer of 2007, my first summer here. I killed literally tens of thousands. This summer I gave up at the first sign and hired a very good exterminator. But aside from the horror of being swarmed by ants, I certainly can learn from them. They even go after stuff they can’t eat, like Sweet N Lo, just because it smells like sugar I guess. I’m usually tenacious, but not as bold as the ants. They just come and come and come after what they want, not caring how many other ants fail in front of their eyes.
