Matthew 5:39 “But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.
My son was discussing this verse with me the other day and he asked me what I thought it meant.
I told him that Jesus walks in love. Turning the other cheek was walking away from an argument, and not being taken up in contentions, for they are unprofitable.
My son said something interesting. He said walking away is what separates us from the world, that if we leave the judgment to the Lord and not take it in our own hands, those who do us harm will reap what they sow.
I thought that was wise for a young adult, and I began to think how we hang on to past hurts or false judgments people make upon us. If we can only let go and allow the Lord to work, he will vindicate us.
All we need to do is let go and feel that release of any hurts we may have. Let us learn to walk away in Love, just as Jesus did.
